NHFT virtual book club - our next read is A Gentleman in Moscow

After spending some time  (and just about surviving) with The Book Club by C.J. Cooper we are off to 1920s Russia for our next read, A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles

When, in 1922, he is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, Count Alexander Rostov is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin.

Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors.

Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him a doorway into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

“A tale abundant in humour, history and humanity, with a poignant message about time passing. That Towles also makes this rollicking good fun is no mean feat.” ― Sunday Telegraph.

The next meeting will be Thursday the 30th of June at 7pm via MS Teams where we will be discussing the novel. You can find the link via the Events Calendar on the Staff Room.

NHFT virtual book club - our next read is The Book Club!

Following our step back in time to the 1600s with The Illumination of Ursula Flight we are moving to the present day (and being rather meta) with The Book Club by C.J. Cooper.

The book club was her idea, of course. Alice's.

It was her way into our group. A chance to get close.

I knew from the day she arrived that she couldn't be trusted.

And I was right.

Because Alice didn't come to the village for peace and quiet.

She came for revenge.

''Dark, twisty, claustrophobic' Jo Spain

The next meeting will be Thursday the 12th of May at 7pm via MS Teams where we will be discussing the novel. You can find the link via the Events Calendar on the Staff Room.

Will you dare come to our book club?

NGH has taken the decision not to renew its UpToDate subscription when the current contract expires at the end of April, and all users will lose access from the first of May.

To download a guide on how to mange and redeem your CME credits click here There are also some instructional videos on how to do it from both the app and desktop versions of UpToDate here.

Whilst not equivalent to UpToDate, you can find lots of evidence-based health resources on the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub here: http://library.nhs.uk/knowledgehub/.

BMJ Best Practice is also available to all NHS staff here https://bestpractice.bmj.com (and if you use the link on the front of The Street, you will not need to log in).
