Mental health & learning disability student open day Saturday March 10th

Northamptonshire Healthcare are holding a recruitment day on Saturday the 10th of March between 10 am and 2 pm at Berrywood Hospital for mental health and learning disability students.

The library at Berrywood Hospital will be open for the duration of the event and library staff will be available to talk about the role the service plays in supporting learning and nurses in practice.

This will mean it is noisier than usual at Berrywood Library for our regular users and those wanting a quiet place to work might be better off going to the Richmond Library at Northampton General Hospital.

For more information, including how to register for the event see the Northamptonshire Healthcare web site.

Looking for a new role? We have a vacancy for a professional librarian...

Berrywood Library
Due to the impending retirement of the current post holder, we are looking to recruit a new full time band 5 librarian to join our friendly, forward thinking team.

In a varied role you will take the lead in delivering the service at Berrywood and Isebrook libraries, based in Berrywood Hospital, Northampton

You will be responsible for the day to day supervision of staff based at Berrywood. Other duties will include cataloguing, classification, stock management and collection development.

You will deliver training (both in group and one-to-one sessions), undertake enquiry work and perform literature searches for service users.  You will also lead on some library projects as they arise.

We are looking for someone who is flexible and proactive with strong IT, communication, interpersonal and presentation skills. Ideally you will also have experience of delivering training.

You will need to be able to work effectively with minimal supervision and be able to travel to other healthcare sites within the county.  Previous health care library experience would be an advantage, but isn’t essential.

If you are interested in this role you can find more information, including how to apply, on the NHS Jobs web site here.

Would you like to work for us? We're recruiting...

A recent YouGov survey of over 14,000 people said that being a librarian was the 2nd most desirable job in Britain (just behind author). If you are one of the 54% of people who agreed, now is your chance to live the dream as we are recruiting for a full time library assistant.

A typical NHS librarian
You will be based at the Berrywood Hospital Library in Duston, although we may need you to go to our other libraries on occasion.

We're looking for someone with great customer service skills as you will often be the first point of contact with the NHS staff who use our services.

We need someone who is adaptable, confident, and able to deal with the full range of staff and students. You will have a good level of general education and be IT literate. Previous experience of working in a library would be a bonus but is by no means essential. A sense of humour would also be an asset.

Berrywood Library
Our library assistants undertake a range of general duties including staffing our reception desks and dealing with users, carrying out library inductions, sourcing documents, answering enquiries and supporting users with finding information and general IT queries.

You will also be given overall responsibility for one or more areas of work, and of course, appropriate training will be given.

If you are interested in this role you can find more information, including how to apply, on the NHS Jobs web site here.

We look forward to hearing from you...

Berrywood Hospital Move

The move from Princess Marina to our new library at Berrywood Hospital is now nearly complete. All the stock and equipment has been transferred, books and journals are all on the shelves and (nearly) all our computers are up and running.

The team have all worked very hard at ensuring the move went as smoothly as possible and we will be ready to open on Monday the 24th (although we've already had a number of visitors and our first "proper" customer!). There are still a few things left to finish, but we are almost there.

The new library looks really good and we are all really pleased with the design. The Berrywood Library is a fantastic new resource for our users and staff alike. Come and visit us soon!

Princess Marina Library is Moving to Berrywood Hospital

The library at Princess Marina Hospital will be moving to its new home to become the Berrywood Hospital Library.

There is likely to be some disruption to the service from Monday the 10th of May and then:

  • Out of hours access at Princess Marina will not be available from the 10th of May
  • The library will close on Thursday the 13th of May for packing and remain shut all of the following week for the actual move
  • The new Berrywood Hospital Library will then open on Monday the 24th of May
  • The Health Promotion Resources Service will be available, but inevitably there will be some disruption
  • A full range of services will still be available from all the other library sites.
Please Note: The Health Promotion Resources Service will be staying at its location in the current Princess Marina Library for the short term. We expect this will also be moving later in the year. Details will be announced when we know more.

Berrywood Hospital Library Build Update

The build at Berrywood Hospital has now reached the final stages, with just a few more weeks to go until we move in.  The library now has paint on the walls, carpet on the floors and furniture in the offices, as well as power and data points.

The next step will be FG Library coming in to install shelving and fit out the library space. That begins on Tuesday the 4th of May.

Currently, we are still on track to move into the new library on the week of the 17th of May. Princess Marina will begin packing up the week before and the library will be closed from Wednesday the 12th of May.  We hope to reopen at Berrywood Hospital on Thursday the 20th or Friday the 21st.

The Health Promotion Resources Service will be staying at its current base in the existing library site for the time being.  It will be also be moving in the near future, but we are unsure of timescales at present.

Berrywood Hospital Library Build Update

The build of the Berrywood Hospital, and the library is moving on apace!  Since our last visit all the scaffolding has come down, doors and windows have gone in and there is even paint on the walls.

We've now had the final drawings for staff offices and a sample of the carpet, so we are able to get on and chose the colours for our furniture.

Everything is running to plan so we will be furiously packing from around the 12th of May with the move from Princess Marina to Berrywood starting on Monday the 17th.  There is still a lot to do, but we are looking forward to moving into this wonderful new space.

Berrywood Hospital Library Build

The building work for the library within the new Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation NHS Trust Berrywood Hospital is progessing apace. Donning our Bob the Builder outfits (complete with luminous jacket, hard hat, safety boots and gloves!), we were given a tour of the main site and the library.

The whole project seems to be running extremely efficently and the new hospital is going to be very impressive once completed.

This photo shows some of the space for the new library. We are very pleased with the layout and are looking forward to moving in around mid-May 2010, to what is going to be a fantastic resource for all our users.
