All the libraries will be unstaffed on Monday the 6th of May for the bank holiday.

24 hour access is available as usual to our registered members by swiping in using your library card at the Berrywood and Richmond libraries.

Isebrook Library will be closed over the bank holiday.

We reopen as normal on Tuesday the 7th at all of our sites.

Easter opening

All the Libraries will be unstaffed on Friday the 19th and Monday the 22nd of April for the Easter holiday.

Help us buy the titles you need

We want to be sure that the books we buy are the books you actually need to support your work and learning.

We review publisher's catalogues, scan reading lists and peruse different web sites, but what we like best is when you tell us what you need.

That is where our books on approval scheme comes in.

Every two months our supplier sends us a selection of new publications on relevant health topics which are available for you to review and suggest titles for us to purchase (or sometimes, not to purchase!).

Our current selections will be available at the Berrywood and Richmond libraries until Friday the 17th of May. Topics covered include:

What's new on Clinical Key - new clinical overviews and books added

Clinical Overviews

Clinical Overviews are a quick and easy way to find evidence-based answers to your clinical questions.

Whenever you do a search in Clinical Key if there is a topic overview it will appear as the first result and also in a box on the right of the page.

Clinical Overviews are not book or journal content; they are concise, easily scannable summaries which include evidence-based information, current guidelines, and the latest advances on medical conditions. Clinical Overviews are tailored for clinicians.

Disruption to Internet access at the Richmond Library, Wednesday 3rd of April

IT are carrying out some essential network maintenance on Wednesday the 3rd of April between 18.00 and 20.00.


During this time Internet access at the Richmond Library could be intermittent and there may be periods when no access is available at all.

As well as Internet access, this will also affect email, SystmOne and other systems used by NHFT staff.

This will not impact on the Berrywood Library.

The Richmond Library

We are looking to recruit a part-time library assistant based at the Richmond Library, Northampton General Hospital, as well as providing cover at our satellite library at Isebrook Hospital in Wellingborough. 

The post is 30 hours a week, working 9 - 5 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. 

We're looking for someone with great customer service skills as you will often be the first point of contact with the NHS staff who use our services.

We need someone who is adaptable, confident, and able to deal with the full range of staff and students. You will have a good level of general education and be IT literate. Previous experience of working in a library would be a bonus but is by no means essential. A sense of humour would also be an asset.

Isebrook Library

Our library assistants undertake a range of general duties including staffing our reception desks and dealing with users, carrying out library inductions for individuals and groups, sourcing documents, answering enquiries and supporting users with finding information and general IT queries.

You will also be given overall responsibility for one or more areas of work, and of course, appropriate training will be given.

Changes to our fines for overdue items

We appreciate how busy all our members are, and that is isn't always so easy to return or renew your loans exactly on time.

Given that, we have decided to hold a one year trial of scrapping our fines for overdue items.

From the 1st of April we will no longer be charging fines on items returned late to us, with one exception.

You will be guaranteed to keep an item for the initial 6 week or 14 day loan period but after that we can change the due date and ask you to return it earlier than expected if it has been requested by another user.

Fines for late items we have recalled will now be £0.50p per item per day (up to a maximum of £7.50 per item). This is to help ensure that users don't have to wait too long for items in demand.

Very overdue items will be charged at the replacement cost, plus a £25 administration fee, as they are now.

• Coming into the library

We hope these changes will make our stock more accessible to all staff within NHFT and NGH.

New national collection of electronic resources available from April 2019

Health Education England have now finished their re-procurement of the NHS National Core Content.

The core content is a selection of electronic resources that are purchased on behalf of all NHS staff in England and available via NHS Open Athens accounts.

Following the re-procurement some services have been withdrawn from the core content collection and others added. Most notable on the withdrawals is the decommissioning of CINAHL plus with full text, which means the loss of a large number of nursing journals online, as well as the Health Business Elite database.

The new core content selection will be available from April 2019 until March 2022 and consists of:

HEE have announced the provision of a point of care tool.

BMJ Best Practice provides summaries of evidence to support decision making in clinical practice and offers "step by step guidance on diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and prevention is updated daily using robust evidence based methodology and expert opinion".

Library book sale starts Monday the 4th of March

We are holding a sale of books recently withdrawn from our stock, starting at 9 am on

Monday the 4th of March at the Berrywood and Richmond libraries.

On offer will be a variety of titles, including previous editions of textbooks as well as other items covering lots of different subjects and disciplines.

Costing just £1 or £2 each, you could find yourself a real bargain, but they do tend to sell quickly so we advise you to get here early in the week for maximum choice.

Web site of the month: The NHS Apps Library

Newly launched this month, the NHS Apps Library provides selection of safe trusted apps and digital tools to support the health care of patients and the public.

All the apps in the library have met NHS Digital standards around clinical safety, usability and security.

You can browse the apps by category, search for specific ones or you can scrolls through a list.

Most of the apps in the library are free, although some have to be purchased and a few require a referral from a health professional to access.

With so many health related apps available, the NHS Apps Library is a great place to start to ensure you have a high quality product that will keep your data secure and do the job it is meant to.
