Clinical Overviews

Clinical Overviews are a quick and easy way to find evidence-based answers to your clinical questions.

Whenever you do a search in Clinical Key if there is a topic overview it will appear as the first result and also in a box on the right of the page.

Clinical Overviews are not book or journal content; they are concise, easily scannable summaries which include evidence-based information, current guidelines, and the latest advances on medical conditions. Clinical Overviews are tailored for clinicians.

Spring bank holiday closure

All the libraries will be unstaffed on Monday the 28th of May for the bank holiday.



24 hour access is available as usual to our registered members by swiping in using your library card at the Berrywood and Richmond libraries.

We reopen as normal on Tuesday the 29th at all of our sites.

13th edition of the Maudsley Prescribing Guidelines in Psychiatry now available online

Access on Ebook Central

The newest edition of the popular Maudsley Prescribing Guidelines in Psychiatry is now available online via the Ebook Central site.

The fully updated 13th edition features:

• A guide to psychiatric disorders and psychopharmacology
• Which drugs to prescribe and the side effects to look for, how to augment them or swap them
• Specific guidance on common psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, depression or bipolar
• Guidance on specific populations such as children, the elderly and pregnant women

To access the book you will need to go to the the Ebook Central site and log in with your OpenAthens account.

If you don't have an Athens account NHS staff and attached students can register for one online.

Later opening at Isebrook Library, Tuesday 15th of May

Isebrook Library will be opening a little later than normal on Tuesday the 15th of May, at 10:00 am.

The Berrywood and Richmond Libraries are both open as normal.

BNF and BNFC added to Clinical Key

Elsevier have added data from both the BNF and the BNFC to Clinical Key, making it an even more useful resource for supporting clinical decision making.

BNF/C data will appear in your search results, or you can simply go to the Drug Monographs section in Clinical Key and search or browse for the information you want

Help us to buy the books you want to read

We want to be sure that the books we buy are the books you actually need to support your work and learning.

We review publisher's catalogues, scan reading lists and peruse different web sites, but what we like best is when you tell us what you need.

That is where our books on approval scheme comes in.

Every two months our supplier sends us a selection of new publications on relevant health topics which are available for you to review and suggest titles for us to purchase (or sometimes, not to purchase!).

Our current selections will be available at the Berrywood and Richmond libraries until Friday the 18th of May. Topics covered include:

Web site of the month: MindEd for Families

MindEd is a free learning resource aimed at families and carers about the mental health of children and young people, and older adults.

The young people section offers hints and tips on parenting, looks at child development and common problems as well as having information on all the services available to support child mental health.

The section on older adults has information on memory problems, sleep, as well as common mental health issues, medications and services that offer support.

MindEd was developed by Health Education England with funding from the Department for Education and NHS England.

May Day bank holiday closure

Isebrook Library closed Monday the 30th April

Isebrook Library will be closed on Monday the 30th of April so the carpet that was damaged in the
flood in March can be replaced.

We should be reopening on Tuesday the 1st of May as normal.

New and improved nursing and allied health database available

As part of the review of the National Core Content (electronic resources provided to all NHS staff in England), Health Education England have upgraded access to one of our nursing databases for 2018-19.

Where NHS staff previously had access to CINAHL with Full Text, for the new financial year we now have CINAHL Plus with Full Text, supplied by EBSCO.

That means access to an additional 146 full text electronic journals, with CINAHL Plus offering full access to a total of 775 nursing and allied health titles with content going back to 1937.

CINAHL Plus with Full Text is available to search through the NICE HDAS interface (along with all the other databases).

You can also access specific journal titles through the Journal A-Z list. You'll just need your OpenAthens password to access both (NHS staff and attached students can register here if they don't have one).

New Cochrane Library website preview

The Cochrane Library, home of the Database of Systematic Reviews is relaunching its website. In advance of the final version, a preview site is currently available for viewing.

The preview site is fully functional (although you will not be able to save any searches), so you can have a look at the new enhancements on the site and even give Wiley feedback on the changes or any problems you may encounter.
