NHFT virtual book club - our next read is A Gentleman in Moscow

After spending some time  (and just about surviving) with The Book Club by C.J. Cooper we are off to 1920s Russia for our next read, A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles

When, in 1922, he is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, Count Alexander Rostov is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin.

Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors.

Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him a doorway into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

“A tale abundant in humour, history and humanity, with a poignant message about time passing. That Towles also makes this rollicking good fun is no mean feat.” ― Sunday Telegraph.

The next meeting will be Thursday the 30th of June at 7pm via MS Teams where we will be discussing the novel. You can find the link via the Events Calendar on the Staff Room.
