Practice Nurse Handbook by Gillian Hampson now available on-line

The Practice Nurse Handbook is now available on-line.

The Handbook covers all aspects of clinical practice, health promotion, and practice management, for nurses in general practice. It includes chapters on common medical conditions, screening tests, sexual health, mental health, chronic disease management, travel health, immunisations, and emergency situations. It addresses legal issues, changes in primary care, nurse prescribing and covers key issues in team working.

You can acccess the Handbook online via the 123Library site. Just click Athens login on the red tab at the top right of the page, and enter your Athens password, then click Read Now.

Problems with on-line book renewals

Since the upgrade of our system last week we have been having problems with renewing library books on-line.  For the moment please either call one of the Libraries (you can leave a message out of hours) or email us and we will renew them for you.
Our supplier is working on this problem and we hope to have a resolution shortly.

The issue with access to electronic journals has now been resolved.

National problems with access to electronic journals

There is currently a problem with access to electronic journals, both from the healthcare databases and the My Journals service on NHS Evidence Health Information Resources site. OCLC who supply the system are currently working on the problem and hope to have normal service resumed shortly.

Possible disruption to NHS Evidence Tuesday 15th March

Due to some essentail maintenance work there could be some short lived disruption to the NHS Evidence site between 8 pm and midnight on Tuesday the 15th of March.

The services available via the Health Information Resources site (the old NLH) will be unaffected.

The Library Catalogue is back up and running

Our system upgrade has been successfully completed early and the Library Catalogue is now back up and running again.

The Library Catalogue will be out of action Monday 14th - Tuesday 15th of March

Due to an essential system upgrade, the online Library Catalogue will be unavailable from mid afternoon on Monday the 14th of March and all day on Tuesday the 15th. 

We will still be able to issue books during this time, and the rest of the Library web site will be unaffected, but we will will not be able to search the collection. 

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

There are lots of resources available to support National No Smoking Day. You can find national materials at the official web site: www.nosmokingday.org.uk/

NHS Choices are offering free "Quit Kits" for smokers up until the 31st of March on their site: http://smokefree.nhs.uk/ as well as lots of advice and support.

Locally NHS Northamptonshire are also promoting the event on their site where you can find case studies, information for young people and signposting to locally available support services: www.goodbyesmoke.co.uk/

New Books on Approval now available

We have a new selection of on approval books at both the Berrywood and Richmond Libraries. 

The on approvals are a chance for you to review the latest titles in a wide variety of healthcare and related fields and recommend any you think useful for us to purchase.

The current selection will be available to view until Friday the 29th of April.

Places still available in March for Library Training

There are still places available on some of our training courses for March:
Our Introduction to Critical Appraisal course is fully booked this month, but there are places left on the April the 8th session at Danetre Hospital.

Remember we can also arrange one-to-one training or tailor a session specifically for groups of staff. We can also deliver our training in almost any NHS venue in the county, providing we have access to the Internet. Just contact us for more information.
